The first skateboard like toy on hand was the red metal toy called the Scooter Skate which was created in the 1930s. The Scooter Skate had 3 metal wheels and a handle. The handle could be detached and the board may be ridden like a skateboard. It was not straightforward to ride as it had steel wheels and could not turn. During the 1940s the Skeeter Skate which had 4 wheels was introduced. This was only a little enhancement over the Scooter Skate.

It wasn’t till the 1950s the first actual skateboards were introduced. Initially they were hand-crafted by kids who really wanted them. They usually were manufactured from wheels taken off roller skates and nailed to a wooden board. Practice makes perfect and nowhere does that saying ring truer than in the world of skateboarding.
