How To Choose a Quality Used Snowboard

November 29th, 2009

You will be pleased to hear that with just a little bit of knowledge you will find it easy to select the right board for you. Try to decide what type of boarding you will be doing. Do you want to be out all day enjoying some all-mountain boarding or are you into speed? Will you mostly be practicing in your local snow park?

When you are choosing a used snowboard check the sidewall and sandwich layers to make sure the laminate is not splitting apart. Make sure the inserts are in good condition and that the board has a full set. If you can, go for a board with a cap construction because this type don't have a sidewall, the board is stronger and it flexes better.

Another consideration is the effective edge. This is the area of the board which actually touches the snow~This is the area of the board which actually touches the snow}. For sharper, tighter maneuvers the effective edge should be shorter. The longer the effective edge the more stability the board will have at faster speeds.

Make a point of inspecting the top sheet. Be wary of more obvious cracks or “crazing” which you may find more evident in and around the binding areas. Often these indicators will warn you of problems down the line. You will find that most smaller scratches are not worth worrying about unless the aesthetics are really important to you. This is down to your own judgment really.

Check the flex. Place the board on a level surface and flex the board to see if it still has a springy feel to it. If it feels dead and soft give it a miss. Also be vigilant for core shots - these occur when the P-Tex material is badly damaged, gouged or chipped. The damage penetrates to the core of the board, hence the name.

The bindings should not deteriorate as quickly as other parts of the board. You can gauge their condition with a quick manual inspection. You will be able to easily tell if the bindings are past their "use by" date.

You may be surprised to know that these days snowboards are designed with different specifications for men and women. You should be aware of this when choosing your second hand snowboard. Women tend to be a slighter build overall and on average are shorter than men, so most women will be looking for a smaller, lighter board. The taller female will want a slightly wider board but not too much longer.

Skateboard Decks – Buying Guide

November 28th, 2009

Choosing a skateboard deck can be a mind-boggling undertaking. There are umpteen parameters that need to be taken in to consideration when beginning the task of purchasing a low-cost skateboard deck. When buying a skateboard deck you need to look at 3 key categories. These factors are the width of the deck, concaveness, and the look of the skateboard deck. Here is some primary information to get you started.

Skateboard Decks

Skateboard Decks

Width is one of the bigger facets of purchasing a skateboard. The width of a board takes into account whether you are a beginner or have been skating for a long period as well.  For example, if you are going to use the skateboard for tricks and how comfortable the skateboard feels to you. If you are a beginner or have poor balance, then a bigger skateboard deck will help you maintain your balance and help you feel more at ease. If you are an advanced skateboarder, than a thinner deck will most likely suit you better. Do not feel that you should buy a thinner deck just because a pro-skateboarder has one. Some lead skaters have tighter decks. This is because they have been skating for a long time and have great balance.

Another choice and one that is based on your personal taste is the concavity of a skateboard deck. Concave refers to the way that the board curves up at its edges, nose and back. The amount of concave will depend on your skate flair and what feels good to you. There are 3 stages of concave. Mellow concave on a skateboard deck is very shallow and almost flat. If you have a flat-footed skate style then this would work out best for you. At the other end of the spectrum of concave is a steep skateboard deck. A steep concave will make you feel like your feet are really stuck to the board. If neither of these feels right for you there is a one more choice. A mid-level concave deck draws from both types to develop a perfect middle. When you go into a shop ask to try out the boards of various concaveness to see what looks best to you.

Lastly, there is how you want your skateboard deck to look like. You want your board to be you. This is all about personalized preference and what you feel looks best on a skateboard deck. There are several styles that are available from full board to partial, color, design, wording etc. You can browse some shops to find the right look. Some manufacturers now have the choice of designing your own graphic to put on your deck.

Many options go into obtaining the best, least expensive, and perfect skateboard deck for you. By thinking of these points and spending the time, you will be able to get the best skateboard deck that fits your style.

Practical Pointers on Helping Your Hair Outlast the Summer Season

November 1st, 2009

Your hair is a very sensitive part of the body, reacting to weather shifts without delay; it’s important that you know how to properly get used to the weather to protect the quality of your hair. A lot of people who are already experiencing noticeable hair loss tend to watch as summer goes by while they’re under the shade, safely away from the endangering rays of the sun. Taking some period to study about procedures to keep your scalp and hair follicles filled with nutrients can be very helpful in terms of keeping as much of your hair strands on your head as long as possible during summer.

It’s alright to take care your hair from direct sunlight by wearing a scarf, bandanna, cap or hat during the day time; just be sure that the protection you wear for your head is not worn too tight. Of course it’s not always possible to walk under a shade if you want to get somewhere fast so it would also be of some aid if you bring an umbrella handy with you during the day. Hats that are too tight a fit will most certainly limit the blood flow going to the hair follicles on your head; without correct blood flow, your hair would fall off and your hair follicles would suffer from lack of vitamins.

Set the water heater or turn it off completely when washing your hair under a shower head; too much heat from the water, especially when it comes from a shower can put unwanted harm on the hair and on the scalp. A number of women these days want to style their hair at home with curling irons, blow dryers and the likes but these things are actually not the friendliest things on your hair. Heat-damaged hair looks very dry and undernourished; it usually has a lot of split ends, it lacks shine and also breaks of gets plucked out easily.

It’s also good to take supplements like Provillus to provide your hair with the right amount of nutrients that are the best for your hair’s development such as Silica which isn’t always present in other types of supplements. Provillus is an all-natural supplement that gives essential nutrients so it doesn’t only stop hair loss, it also strengthens the body. Not only will eating a balanced diet help you fit in your favorite beachwear, it will also help make sure that the blood stream going to your scalp has an ample amount of the correct type of nourishment supportive of your goal to maintain your hair’s health. You can also get Vitamin C supplements to see to it that your blood oxygenation is at its best during hot seasons, making nutrients absorption during blood flow uncomplicated and more efficient as well as giving you other health benefits.

It’s also good if you can prevent dandruff from developing on your scalp; dandruff is quite common during summer time probably because more people suffer from irritated scalp because of the temperature. It’s better to rinse with cool or lukewarm water rather than use shampoo daily. It’s common for dandruff to grow again so don’t feel disheartened when this occurs, just begin the treatment again when it does.
